Baseball Drops First Game of United East Volt Division Playoffs

Harrisburg, PA-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Baseball Team (10-19) opened up game one of the United East Conference Volt Division Playoffs against the top seeded Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions (32-7). The Seahawks fell to the Nittany Lions, 10-6.

How It Happened

  • Penn State Harrisburg scored the first four runs of the ball game over the course of the first four innings. 

  • The Seahawks stormed back to tie the game in the top of the fifth. Aaron Wathen and Trevor Smith both singled to begin the inning. Garrett Pullium was able to send home Wathen from second to give St. Mary's their first run. The next at bat, Derrick Booker tripled to score Garrett Pullium and Aaron Wathen. Booker was able to score himself after an error from the Nittany Lion second baseman to make it 4-4. 

  • Penn State Harrisburg recaptured their lead in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-4.

  • Adrian Auber was able to reach base as the lead off hitter in the top of the sixth. Two at bats later, Trevor Smith connected on a double to send home Auber and tie the game at five. Trevor Smith would score on a passed ball the next at bat to give the Seahawks a 6-5 lead, their first of the day. 

  • Penn State Harrisburg scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to get an 8-6 lead and would score two more runs across the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to take home a 10-6 victory.
