LATHAM, N.Y. – Second-year Head Coach Sona Brymer collected her second straight United East Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year award as the conference office released the 2024 All-United East teams and major award winners Thursday morning (May 9). The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team garnered four members on the all-conference teams.

Brymer guided St. Mary's College to the No. 2 seed in the United East Conference Championship Tournament with a 4-1 record in league action. This is her second consecutive Coach of the Year award and third in the history of the Seahawks women's tennis program as Greg Shedd won the award in 2022.

"I am grateful to be named Coach of the Year. It wouldn't be possible without the hard work and commitment from the team, assistant coaches, and everyone in the athletic department. Being a leader for these exceptional players on the women's team motivates me to be a better coach and a better person," Brymer said.

On the singles side, first-year Cleopatra Solomon (Waldorf, Md./North Point) landed on the All-United East First Team while junior captain Giselle Harris (Easton, Md./Easton) and sophomore Emily Shioutakon (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) each earned a spot on the Second Team.

The team of Harris and senior Ellie Walter (Easton, Md./Easton) claimed All-United East First Team honors.

"All of the players earning all-conference awards deserve this recognition. They have been key players throughout the season and have worked hard to earn this honor. I'm proud of each one of them," Brymer added.

Solomon played No. 1 singles all season long, posting a 10-2 (3-1 UEC) record. She garnered United East Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors twice on March 19 and April 16. Twice during her rookie campaign, Solomon notched four-match win streaks.

Harris and Walter finished the 2023-24 season with a 4-2 (2-0 UEC) mark, including a 3-1 record at No. 2 doubles, for their second straight All-United East selection. Last season, they were named to the Second Team. Harris also tallied All-United East Second Team honors for doubles in 2022.

In singles action, Harris is picking up her third All-United East singles selection in a row, earning First Team honors in 2022 and 2023. This season, she finished with a 7-6 (3-2) record with matches at the first four flights. Harris went 3-4 at No. 3 singles and 2-2 at No. 4 singles plus won one match each at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Shioutakon notched a 4-1 (3-0 UEC) record in limited action as she is also a member of the Seahawks sailing team. In her first season as a member of the women's tennis team, she split time between No. 2 and No. 3 singles, going 2-0 at the second flight and 2-1 at No. 3 singles.

St. Mary's College posted a 9-6 (4-1) overall record for the 2023-24 season, advancing to the United East Volt Division championship game as the No. 2 seed.
