LATHAM, N.Y. – Senior
Giselle Harris (Easton, Md./Easton) was named the United East Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday morning (Mar. 4). This is Harris' first-ever player of the week award.
The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team split their first two matches of 2025 as St. Mary's College dropped a 4-3 decision at York College of Pennsylvania (Feb. 22) before rebounding with a 4-3 triumph at Marymount (Va.) University (Mar. 1). The 5-2 captain posted a 2-2 record over the two matches.
Harris teamed up with
Sarah Levit '28 for a 6-2 win over York's
Kennedy Conte and
Hannah Sult at No. 2 doubles before falling 3-6, 4-6 to Conte at No. 4 singles.
Harris and Levit rallied from a 2-5 deficit to knot it at 6-6 all but fell 6-7 (5) to Marymount's
Sofi Plotkins and
Avery DeFazio at No. 2 doubles. Harris then regrouped with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Plotkins.
The Seahawks (2-3) will return to action Sunday, March 9, when SMCM takes on University of Lynchburg (1-0) at the PTR Spring Tennis Fest down in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The match begins at 12:30 pm and will be played at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort.
