ATLANTA, Ga. – The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Tuesday (July 22) the 2024-25 WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls and the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team earned a special mention for the fourth year in a row.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point averages (GPA) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2024-25 season marks the 30th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
This is the fourth year in which teams having a 3.0 combined GPA and qualifying for consideration for the top 25 in their respective divisions are listed as special mentions.
St. Mary's College tallied a 3.280 team GPA during the 2024-25 academic year. The Seahawks were one of four women's basketball programs to represent the United East Conference as Penn State Harrisburg, Gallaudet University, and Wilson College all made the cut as well.
SMCM finished the 2024-25 season with a 20-8 (15-1 UEC) overall record, marking the first time since the 1999-2000 season that SMCM have won 20 or more games in a season. In 1999-2000, St. Mary's College posted a 23-4 log and fell 73-54 to Salisbury University in the CAC Tournament championship game.
