LATHAM, N.Y. – Senior
Jake Koverman (Severna Park, Md./Southern) was selected as the United East Conference Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon (Jan. 19). This is Koverman's second career defensive player of the week honor.
Koverman shot 57.1-percent from the field (8-of-14) and grabbed 12 rebounds (11 defensive) while adding six assists, four steals, and one block in two games for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team.
The 6-6 team captain poured in a game-best 19 points while hauling in nine rebounds (eight defensive), dishing out a career-best six assists, and picking three pockets as St. Mary's College earned a 70-60 league win at Wilson College (Jan. 13). Koverman then chipped in three boards (all defensive), two points and one steal in a conference road loss to second-place Lancaster Bible College (Jan. 17).
Koverman currently ranks 11th in the United East with a .759-free throw percentage while tying for 13th with 1.5 steals per game. He is also tied for 20th with 5.4 rebounds per game and 1.4 three-pointers per game.
The Seahawks (6-9, 2-3 UEC) will return to the court Wednesday, January 21, when SMCM hosts Rosemont College (2-12, 1-5 UEC) in conference action in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena at 5 pm.
