LATHAM, N.Y. – Senior Joe Szymanski (Easton, Md./Easton) was selected as the United East Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon (Mar. 30). This is Szymanski's third career defensive player of the week award.
 
The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team posted a 2-0 record last week on the road, taking down Southern Virginia University (March 24), 15-4, and handing Penn College (March 28) a 13-10 setback. Szymanski collected 11 ground balls and three caused turnovers to pace the St. Mary's College defense.
 
Szymanski scored his second goal as a Seahawk while leading the defense with six ground balls and one caused turnover at Southern Virginia. He then scooped up five ground balls and caused two turnovers at Penn College, helping to limit the Wildcats to just five shots and no goals in the fourth quarter.
 
The 6-4 defenseman leads the United East with 24 caused turnovers while ranking fifth with 60 ground balls.
 
SMCM (8-4) will be back in action Saturday, April 4, when St. Mary's College travels to York, Pa., to take on No. 8 York College of Pennsylvania (8-1) in non-conference action at 12 pm.
