LATHAM, N.Y. – Sophomore
Breanna Brown (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) was selected as the United East Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon (Sept. 7). This is Brown's first career conference defensive player of the week award.
The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team earned a win, a loss, and a draw to open the 2026 campaign. Brown posted a 0.67 goals against average, tallying 14 saves, recording her first career shutout, and notching her second career win along the way.
The 5-7 keeper made one save in the Seahawks come-from-behind 2-1 home- and season-opening win over Hood College (Sept. 1). Brown then turned away five shots in a tough 1-0 loss to Franklin & Marshall College (Sept. 4) before rebounding with a season-best eight stops in a scoreless draw with McDaniel College (Sept. 5).
Brown currently ranks third in the United East with a 0.67 goals against average, an .875 save percentage and 14 saves.
St. Mary's College (1-1-1) will be back in action this Wednesday, Sept. 9, when SMCM welcomes Stevenson University (0-2-0) to the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium for a non-conference match at 7 pm.
