Washington, D.C. – Sophomore Allison Griffin (Dayton, Md./River Hill) won both her matches Monday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team posted its seventh shutout victory of the season – a 9-0 decision over the host Trinity Washington University Tigers in non-conference action.
Griffin started the match by partnering up with first-year Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) for an 8-0 win over first-years Ashley Archibald (Washington, D.C.) and Shari King (Washington, D.C.) at No. 3 doubles. Griffin then followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over sophomore Danielle Scott (Washington, D.C.) at No. 6 singles for her first career singles win.
Senior Kathleen Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) earned a milestone win as Ramsey picked up her 50th career win with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 singles over sophomore Bola Akinrimisi (Glendale, Md.). She is now 50-19 in her four-year career as a Seahawk while improving to 11-4 this season.
Ramsey teamed up with fellow senior Sarah Minkoff (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) for an 8-2 victory over Akinrimisi and junior Rebecca Auleus (Hamilton, N.J.) at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Alyssa Stine (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and first-year Lauren Rost (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) joined forces for their fourth consecutive win – an 8-3 win over juniors Lakia Merriweather (Washington, D.C.) and Stefanie Merki (Neuenhof, Switzerland) at No. 1 doubles.
Stine nabbed her third singles win in a row as she dispatched Auleus, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles for her 15th victory of the season.
The Seahawks (14-6) only dropped nine sets the entire match, losing five in doubles action and four in singles play.
St. Mary's will be back in action on Saturday, April 21 as the Seahawks host one of two first round matches in the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament. St. Mary's are the No. 3 seed in this year's tournament.
