Box Score Madison, N.J. – Senior captain Brendan McFall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) led the No. 10 St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team to a convincing 81-66 season-opening win at FDU-Florham Monday night.
McFall notched a career-best 28 points in 24 minutes as he shot 10-of-15 from the field, including 6-of-9 from downtown. The six three-pointers is a career-high for McFall as well.
Fellow senior captain Donn Hill (Aberdeen, Md./Bel Air) also crossed the 20-point plateau for the Seahawks (1-0) as Hill matched his career-high with 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting and a 5-of-5 effort at the free throw line while adding two assists.
Junior captain Nicholas LaGuerre (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) was the third and final Seahawk to score in double figures as LaGuerre went 6-of-13 from the field to finish with 16.
Junior center J.D. Garris (Germantown, Md./Covenant Life School) led St. Mary's on the boards by grabbing a career-best eight boards while senior guard Christopher Hutchinson (Baltimore, Md./New Town) added seven.
As a team, the Seahawks, who never trailed in the game and owned a 39-25 halftime advantage, shot nearly 46% (28-of-61) from the field for the game. St. Mary's defense caused 16 turnovers, collecting three steals and one block.
The Seahawks will be back on the court this weekend at the Hoopsville National Invitational Classic hosted by Stevenson University on November 22-24. St. Mary's will start off against No. 19 Cabrini College on Friday the 22nd at 8:00 pm before taking on No. 18 Middlebury College on Sunday the 24th at 1:00 pm.
