St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team makes it six in a row Saturday afternoon with their third straight shutout win, and sixth overall, as the Seahawks (9-7) downed future Capital Athletic Conference member, Southern Virginia University (3-7), 9-0.
The Seahawks opened up with a 3-0 advantage after sweeping all three doubles matches. Senior captain Chelsea Bradcovich (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and first-year Anna Passaniti (White Hall, Md./Hereford) stretched their win streak to five with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles over junior Ann Kuroki (Hershey, Neb./Hershey) and senior Courtney McNeil (Medina, N.Y./Medina). Bradcovich and Passaniti are now 11-2 on the season, including a 9-2 mark at the third doubles flight.
Bradcovich and Passaniti then clinched the win for St. Mary's with their singles victories. The win marked the fifth straight win for Passaniti as she picked up a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over A. Kuroki at No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Emily Stumpfig (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) ran her win streak to five in a row as Stumpfig posted a shutout win over first-year Amy Spencer (Orem, Utah/Mountain View) at No. 2 singles. Stumpfig now leads the team with nine singles wins.
Sophomore Shannon Ramsey (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) battled senior Ivy Kuroki (Hershey, Neb./Hershey) for her fourth consecutive win with a 6-2, 2-6, 7-2 victory at No. 1 singles.
St. Mary's will be back in action on Wednesday, April 3 when the Seahawks welcome Goucher College to the Somerset Tennis Complex for a non-conference match at 3:30 pm.
