St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team put an end to their scoreless streak against undefeated and nationally-ranked Lynchburg College on a cloudy, rainy Tuesday afternoon. In addition, the Seahawks staked their first lead this season but No. 14 Lynchburg rallied for a 3-2 non-conference as the Hornets fought to remain undefeated.

How It Happened

• St. Mary's drew first blood in the eighth minute when junior forward Jenna Pastel's (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) cross from the left side curved into far top right corner.
• Kennedy Jakubek responded for the Hornets nearly nine minutes later as Jakubek dribbled down the left side of the field into the penalty box and fired a laser of a shot into the lower far right corner.
• That would be all the scoring for the first half as junior goalkeeper Katie Flores (Towson, Md./Towson) made five stops on the 10 first-half LC shots Flores faced.
• First-year forward Alex Moody (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) gave the Seahawks a 2-1 advantage at 51:03 when Moody's initial cross rebounded off a Lynchburg defender and she was ready for the put-back.
• The game was knotted at 2-2 in the 63rd minute when a cross from the left side off the foot of Natalya Rodriguez bounced off the heads of two Seahawk defenders into the goal.
• Jakubek sent in a cross from the right side to the center of the box where Caitlin Mertens one-timed it for her sixth goal of the season and the eventual game-winner at 67:26.

For the Seahawks (0-5-2)

• Scorers: Pastel (1 goal); Moody (1 goal)
• Goalkeeper: Flores (Season-best 8 saves, 3 goals allowed, 90:00)
• St. Mary's registered eight shots (two on goal) and three corner kicks in the first half.

For No. 14 Lynchburg (6-0-0)

• Scorers: Jakubek (1 goal, 1 assist); Mertens (1 goal); Own Goal
• Goalkeeper: Delia LoSapio (0 saves, 2 goals allowed, 90:00)
• The Hornets put up 19 shots (11 on goal) and earned seven corner kicks.

Notes

• This was the first-ever meeting between the Seahawks and Lynchburg.
• St. Mary's finally halted its scoreless streak at 498:56 minutes with its first goal today.
