St. Mary's City, Md. – Junior attackman Max Groen (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) put up career numbers as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team returned to the win column in a big way Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks (3-4) posted a 15-5 non-conference win over Marywood University behind career-bests of six goals and eight points from Groen.

How It Happened

• St. Mary's opened up a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, scoring all five in a five-minute span. Groen tallied three goals, including back-to-back goals in 15 seconds, and an assist in the 5-0 run. The Pacers finally got on the board with four seconds to go in the first as Matt Mitarotonda found the back of the net.
• The Seahawks outscored Marywood, 3-1, in the second period as senior midfielder Dan Long (Mechanicsville, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) dished out two of his career-best three assists. St. Mary's headed into halftime with an 8-2 advantage.
• St. Mary's built an 11-goal cushion in the third stanza with another five-goal run as Groen added his final three points of the day with two goals and one helper for a 13-2 lead with less than a minute to go. Mitarotonda scored his second of the day with 16 ticks on the clock.
• Scoring was even in the final quarter with each side notching two goals. Senior midfielder Michael Raimond (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) tallied a career-best two points over the final 15 minutes with his first career goal and an assist.

Inside the Box Score

• Of his career-best six goals, Groen scored a career-high three man-up goals as he matched his career-best of eight points for the second time in his career.
• Junior midfielder Michael Bucci (Davidsonville, Md./Severn) went 11-of-23 in face-offs with a game-best six ground balls while senior captain Conner Campbell (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) contributed four ground balls and a game-high three caused turnovers on the defensive front.
• In goal, junior Ross Snodderly (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) needed just four saves in 56:05 minutes for his third win of the season.
• Austin Maylor tallied a goal and two assists to lead Marywood with three points while Mitarotonda paced the team with his two goals. Riley Litman earned the upper hand in face-offs, 13-of-24, and scooped up five ground balls. Vinny Biancardi finished the day with 13 stops.
