Athletic Accomplishments:
David was a three-sport athlete and tripleletter-winner all four years. He played basketball for CoachEd Cole (1990 Hall of Fame). David understood themeaning of the word TEAM, always giving 100% to his teams andbringing drive, determination and a desire to win to each.
Post-collegiateAccomplishments:
A double major in chemistry and biology, Davidstarted his own company, Chemicals Unlimited, Inc. in Lutherville,Maryland. Today, it’s a global chemical conglomerate withoffices in the United Kingdom. David also served on theCollege’s Alumni Council from 1993-1999. He has been a boardmember of the College’s Foundation since 2005. David alsoorganized the 25-year reunion of the Class of 1976.
Most Memorable Sports Experience at St.Mary’s:
“Getting into a 19 foot Thunderball sailboatwith 4 girls riding in the bottom of the boat while it was adrift.Wow, lucky me!”
Most Missed:
“Sports are all about the people you playwith. With sports (teams) you are part of a family. You are alldependent on each other to be successful. You become lifelongfriends from that experience.”
Words of Advice for Today’s SeahawkAthlete:
“Today’s athlete has to be well educatedto be good at what they do athletically. Study as hard as youpractice your sport or sports. One day that knowledge will take youfar.”
Involvement in Sports Today:
“Yes but in different ways.” Davereturned to competitive sailing on a dare and is now a world-classsailor and a member of Team Captain Hook, which sails out of theWayzata (Minnesota) Yacht Club. The team sails, in major regattasworldwide, in a Sonar sailboat which is a three-person keelboatthat accommodates athletes with physical disabilities. In 2007,Team Captain Hook was ranked 5th in the world and Dave was ranked2nd best jib trimmer in the world. He also was a contender for thespot as jib trimmer on the US Paralympics sailing team for the 2008Paralympics Games in Qingdao, China.
