Athletic Accomplishments:
Lacrosse: As a first-year, Michael received theteam Coach’s Award in 1977. He was team co-captain for 1979and 1980. He was also selected to the United States IntercollegiateLacrosse Association (USILA) Tri-State League All-Star Team in 1979and 1980. As a senior, Mike was the only St. Mary’s playerselected to play in the USILA North-South 1980 All-Stars game. Hewas selected the School’s Male Athlete of the Year for1980.
Soccer: Michael was a member of thesoccer team from 1978-1980 and team captain in 1980.
Post-collegiateAccomplishments:
Michael, Corey Roberts ’80, PeterCollins ’79 (1991 Hall of Famer) and JakeJacobs ’75 teamed up in Manchester, England at the1994 Lacrosse World Games. Undefeated after five games, their teamclaimed the title of 1994 World Master Champions. (See photo underPeter Collins ’79)
Most Memorable Sports Experience at St.Mary’s:
“There are so many, but [one] would probablybe beating Ohio Wesleyan in 1980 by the score of 11-10 in overtime.Also, all of our travels to away games on the Blue Bus.”
Balancing Academics and Athletics at St.Mary’s:
“I actually believe I did better academicallywhen I was playing a sport. I found that I had to be more organizedand had to manage my time much more.”
Thoughts on St. Mary’sCollege:
“My experiences at SMCM were indeed very life changing forme and ones that I still look back on today with pride and joy. Assports teams, we were very dependent on each other. I still am incontact with several of my teammates and value theirfriendships.”
