Most Memorable Sports Experience at St.Mary’s:

“As the Center Halfback on the St.Mary’s College Women’s soccer team, I didn’t havethe luxury of solely focusing on offense. I had to quickly movefrom defense to offense and back in a split second. I have oneparticular memory of a very competitive 1-1 tie game with CatholicUniversity and in the final minutes of the game I was determined tobreak the tie and beat our rival. I got the ball in the backfield, quickly dribbled up the field, and when I was just outside of thepenalty box I saw a corner of the net. I quickly took a shot with avery satisfying strike of the ball and I bombed the ball over allthe defenders and just over the goalie’s head into thetop corner of the goal, while the opposing team’s defenderswere screaming, ‘Don’t let her take a shot! Don’tlet her take a shot!’ I still remember the ball rippling downthe back of the net as I scored the dramatic winning goal. Itwas one of those perfect athletic moments of total satisfaction andjoy!”

Involvement in Sports Today:

“I played soccer on and off for a decade aftercollege including on an amateur team in Washington, D.C. where Ifinally was able to be center forward (striker) and I was nevereven allowed to play defense at all. My only job was to scoregoals. Someone took my right knee out in 1998 on a recreationalteam and I’ve never played again.”
