Athletic Accomplishments:
A key component in restoring the St. Mary’sCollege sailing team to its national prominence as a top tenteam, Melanie was one of the College’s first two femalesailors selected for all-American honors.
Post-collegiateAccomplishments:
After graduating with a triple major in politicalscience, economics and public policy, she entered the University ofBaltimore School of Law in the fall of 1992 and the followingsummer entered the University’s School of Business. Shegraduated in 1995 with both a JD and an MBA. After clerking for theHonorable Robert E. Cadigan from 1995 to 1996, Melanie moved toOrlando where she worked for a small commercial litigation firm forabout two and a half years before returning to Baltimore to work atthe law firm of Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP in the area ofChapter 11 litigation.
Most Memorable Sports Experience at St.Mary’s:
“My most memorable experience was probably watching thesailing program go from a small, underdog club-like team to atop-ranked program between the time I was a freshman and thetime I was a senior. Adam Werblow started as coach the same yearthat I started as a freshman. With his motivation, and a talentedand dedicated team, you can do the math on how that happened infour years.”
Thoughts on St. Mary’sCollege:
“My experiences on the sailing team were unforgettable,and I will forever belong to this ever-growing family of people whojoin the team, graduate, and continue to participate asalumni.” Melanie tries to attend the Alumni Regatta hosted bythe sailing team every year. This regatta, also known as the“Possum Bowl,” started her senior year at theCollege.
