SEAN HEALEY '92 has leveraged his collegiate and professional sailing career into becoming one of the leading experts in the compel world of marine electronics, navigation, instrumentation, and control systems for state-of-the-art racing yachts worldwide. Sean was a four-year member of the Seahawks sailing team as both skipper and crew. The Team MVP as a senior, he captained the squad during the 1991-92 season as well. Sean received the Robert H. Hobbs Sportsmanship Award in 1992, becoming the first Seahawk to earn the honor.

LIFE AFTER SMCM: Life after St. Mary's College began with a brief stint as an assistant sailing coach at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy between 1993 and 1995.
    Sean has spent 30 years since 1995 working in the sailing industry, initially as a professional sailor but then transitioning into a technical support role for both U.S. and international yacht racing syndicates.
    As a sailor, he competed in dozens of national and international world championship events on boats ranging from 24' to 100', amassing over 75,000 offshore miles while either competing on or delivering race boats to venues all over the world.
    he has been a technical team member for numerous Volvo  Around the World Ocean race syndicates, America's cup syndicates, and privately-owned offshore racing programs.
    As a member of the second-place Puma Ocean Racing team shore crew, Sean was the recipient of the 2009 Wallenius Wihelmsen Logistic Seamanship Award for rendering assistance to Telefonica Blue, who had run aground and was in jeopardy of sinking during the ninth leg of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-9.
    Over the next five years, he was hired by several major racing programs, such as Oracle Team USA, Comanche, Soft Bank Team Japan, and Bella Mente, as either the lead designer or a senior member of the design team for the electric and electronical systems.
    He was also a member of the Oracle Team USA team shore crew when oracle captured the 33rd America's Cup, sailing's most prestigious trophy, in 2013 while Comanche has been the fastest record-setting conventional non-foiling mono-hull in the world, holding the Transatlantic, Transpacific, and 24-hour sailing records.
    As a member of the American Magic team shore crew at the 36th America's Cup, Sean was instrumental in rebuilding Patriot, American Magic's yacht, following a catastrophic capsizing in the Prada Cup which resulted in a gaping hull and damage to all of the internal electronic systems. Under different circumstances, these repairs would have taken weeks to complete but Sean and the rest of the team had Patriot back in the water racing within 11 days.
