Athletic Accomplishments:
Lacrosse: Mark played attack as a first-year.Coach Sothoron (1997 Hall of Famer)switched him togoalie his sophomore year, saying, in a March 1976 BaltimoreSun article, “He is a fantastic lacrosse player withgreat stick work and he has really come along.” He compiled a10-4 record that year. Mark was also recognized for most saves in asingle game (23 versus William & Mary) and most saves in aseason (182). He went back to playing attack and in his senioryear, was recognized for most assists in a game (5 versusKutztown), most assists scored in a season (27), most total pointsscored in a season (46) including 19 goals. After graduation, Markserved for two years as the school’s assistant soccer coachfollowed by one year as the women’s first lacrosse coach.
Most Memorable Sports Experience at St.Mary’s:
A National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics(NAIA) soccer playoff game in New York. If St. Mary’s hadwon, the team would have gone to California, but unfortunately theywere “soundly defeated.”
Involvement in Sports Today:
Plays co-ed soccer with his family (kids, brothers,nephews, nieces) as well as in various men’s leagues.
Mentor at St. Mary’s:
Soccer coaches John Spangler and Mike Sweeney(2006 Legend). They were his mentors because they taughtpreparation, passion and responsibility.
